What does Za warudo mean?

“Za warudo” is a reference from a popular Japanese manga/anime series called JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

The term is from scene in the anime, where the main antagonist of the series “Dio Brando” fights the third protagonist “Jotaro Kujo” Due the anime’s Japanese pronunciation of the English world “The World”, it sounded like “za warudo”.

Fans think highly of the scene where Dio uses his stand, which is called “The World” to stop time in order to beat Jotaro.

Mid battle he lets out his famous battle cry “WRYYYY” which became meme on its own, featuring Pepe the frog.

Originally, the term and the stand “The word” first appeared in the end of the year 1991. in the 248th chapter of the manga, JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure.

The animated scene came later in the anime OVA, called the Stardust Crusaders, which is part of the manga.

Stardust Crusaders aired between 1992-1994 and the fight scene between them, where the meme comes from, aired in the end of the year 1994.

A tournament fighter game was later released, that references the fight.
