Wenis: Meaning, Origin and Spread

Although often mistaken as purposely misspelled “penis”, the wenis does actually have very little to do with the genital area.

The “wenis” is the loose skin on your elbow, professionally referred to as the “olecranal skin”.

“Wenis” compares the loose skin of the elbow to the similar-looking skin on a man’s penis. The same counts for the similar slang “wagina”, which is the inner fold of the elbow joint, that can, in some cases, look like a vagina.

In some cases, the term does refer to the male genitals, and is derived from the combination of “penis” and “weiner”.

However, the elbow version is more widespread.

Origin

What's the origin of Wenis?

It is unclear exactly how and when the slang came to life, but it seems to have appeared in the late 1990’s, and was likely first used by teenagers.

The term was not very well known up until it was mentioned in the comedy film Hangover. Character “Alan” mentioned it during the line: “When a monkey nibbles on a weenis, it’s funny in any language.”

Spread and Usage

How did Wenis spread?

“Wenis” started circulating due to childish, silly jokes, such as exclaiming “I can see your wenis!”, if your mate is wearing a T-shirt that reveals his elbows.

In a 2013 episode of Dude, You’re Screwed, a young man attempted to push himself forward on a skateboard using the gas from a nitrous tank, expectedly resulting in falling. Sitting on the ground, he exclaimed “Ow, I hurt my wenis!”
