Turnt is the slang word for getting very excited about something.
It is often seen in combination with “up”, such as Turnt up.
A person is Turnt or Turnt up when they are really hyped at a party or a club, or just genuinely excited of being somewhere.
You can’t sleep the night before your vacation because you are Turnt.
It is used to describe a person’s state of mind, but it can also describe an atmosphere, for example, this party is Turnt.
Turnt can also describe a person who is drunk.
Origin of the term
The term started out as “turned” or “turned up”, but as the pronunciation sounds more like there is a “t” in the end of the word, people started writing it in that manner.
The first online definition of the word appeared in 2005, but it might have been used even earlier outside of the internet.
Spread of the term
Generally used by young people in the US.
The trap song “Turn Down For What” by DJ Snake and Lil Jon, released in 2013, is using the term in it’s title, and their music video is showing a party that is really Turnt.
It’s usage is especially associated with the US African-American community.
