Trump Derangement Syndrome
Trump derangement syndrome is a pejorative expression used for mocking the ad hominem arguments of people who manically oppose President Trump, similar to the online phrase orange man bad.
“Trump derangement syndrome” may also affect supporters of Trump, as they may be prone to blindly praising every move he makes.
The expression can be traced back to Charles Krauthammer, who came up with the expression Bush derangement syndrome back in 2003.
One of the earliest mentions of “Trump derangement syndrome” comes from an op-ed published in August, 2015 in The American Spectator, written by Esther Goldberg.
Spread and Usage
“Trump derangement syndrome” has appeared on sites like Twitter, Facebook as well as Reddit, in political arguments that get out of hand.
The phrase was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2017.
