Cibophobia is a disorder, that consists of feeling loathing, aversion or fear toward food items.

The subject of “cibophobia” is feeling negative emotions in relation to consuming or straight up seeing food.

A synonym for the disorder is sitophobia, which consists of a fear of eating, due to anticipated symptoms that could arise, including nausea, vomiting or abdominal pain.

What's the origin of Cibophobia?

The terminology of this aversion was born out of a Latin and a Greek component; cibo, which is Latin for food and –phobia, which is Greek for fear or agitation about some subject.

“Cibophilia” had been long recorded in history and it is not a newly emerged disorder or disease, that is tormenting only our generations.

The disorder may serve as the first stepping stone toward other food-related difficulties, including anorexia or bulimia.
