Dweeb – not to be confused with Weeb is a pejorative slang expression, directed against geeky people, describing them as unattractive, insignificant or completely incapable.
While the exact origin of “Dweeb” is hard to locate, as it was most likely conceived in schoolyard faceoffs and during acts of bullying – similar to the Indian Burn – it first started appearing in print in the early 1980’s.
Since then, the rise of the internet has led to the easier spread of the term, while simultaneously producing a lot more “Dweebs”.
The popularity of “Dweeb” rose significantly since the 80’s, shooting up in the 1990’s, with the first Urban Dictionary entry appearing on the expression in 2003, with many more to follow in the subsequent years.
Since then, the 2010’s, saw the further rise of the prominence of “Dweeb”, with the term appearing in comic books, cartoons, video games, as well as music, motion pictures and literature.
