Meaning
Simp is a term, used for men, who are too submissive and subservient to women, often self-identifying as chivalrous or like the “fabled white knight”.
Women of normal taste usually reject and make use of these people, resulting of them becoming hopeless romantics as well as emotionally suppressive and unstable.

Origin
The earliest usage of simping comes from the early 20th century, as an abbreviation for simpleton.
The term entered popular use around the early 2000’s with it being featured in rap songs such as “Sippin’ on Some Syrup” where it is used as the opposite of pimp.
The first Urban Dictionary entry on the word was added in 2005, with several others following in the same year.
In 2013, it was defined here as “Someone Idolizing Mediocre Pussy”.
Spread and Usage
The phrase was however starting to spread in 2019, on sites like Reddit and 4chan, usually in anti-feminist threads, related to the movement MGTOW.
Following its upheaval on sites like these, it had spread to social media, seen in Instagram posts as well as Tweets.
Memes were also posted with simp on them.
The term had also made it to the more and more popular TikTok app, also boosting its popularity.
