G-Fazos is a slang noun for a particular pair of sneakers from the sports-brand Nike, the Air Force 1’s.
The shoes are favoured by the hip-hop and rap community, and was originally loved by African Americans before it became a trend, causing white people to fall for the style.
As the slang has become so widespread, there even was a petition going to get Nike to re-name the Air Force 1 collection of their shoes to “G-Fazos”.
The slang originates from Chicago, and the person to coin it was rapper G Herbo, previously known as “Lil Herb”.
In February 2015, G Herbo released his track “Rollin’”, including a line that says:
“Do your thing just don’t step on these all white G Fazos.”
The sneakers gained great fame soon after, leading to increased sales for the brand.
Spread and Usage
In 2017, a G Herbo fan started a petition to change the name of the Air Force 1’s to “G-Fazos”, with the argument that the only reason they sell so well is because of G Herbo. As of 7th of August, 2020, the petition has had no luck.
October 9th, 2017, kollegekidd.com released the news that G Herbo’s girlfriend bought him 22 pairs of “G-Fazos” for his 22nd birthday.
Although G Herbo started it all, the slang has become increasingly popular with many other rappers, as well as going viral on the short-video sharing app Tiktok.
