Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith was released on May 12th, 2005 in the United States.
In one of the scenes, Chancellor Palpatine is confronted by Jedi, including Mace Windu (played by Ian McDiarmid and Samuel L. Jackson respectively).
After being cornered, he retaliates with Force lightning, while screaming “unlimited power”.
Memes of the scene started emerging online in 2012.
Spread and Usage
The format started spreading on numerous meme pages, such as MemeBase, 9GAG and Memecrunch, in 2012.
It would also be featured on the r/PrequelMemes subreddit, starting in 2016, however it would remain an underdog for more popular Prequel Memes.
Starting in 2019, “unlimited power” would see a resurgence on numerous subreddits.
