Online, it is combined with a screenshot image macro from the scene as a form of reaction to ideas that perplex one’s mind.
Origin
The phrase is already featured in the trailer of the movie, which was uploaded to YouTube on September 12th, 2018.
In one of the scenes, Dr. Vaseegaran (played by Rajinikanth) urges others to activate Chitti, a robot, as he describes the situation as “this is beyond science”.
Spread and Usage
The meme started circulating on Twitter, mostly on Indian accounts in the beginning.
By October, however “this is beyond science” had spread onto Reddit and an international audience.
It then appeared in multiple Reddit threads, as well as memes on sites like Instagram and Facebook.
