The discourse started out on August 12th, 2019, when Popeye’s Twitter account posted a photo about their new chicken sandwich.
A week later, Chick-fil-A tweeted a similar post about a sandwich that is essentially the same that Popeyes posted.
Spread and Usage
After the tweets, memes and jokes were being created about the two restaurants, with media outlets and the restaurants themselves joining in on the fun.
The campaign may be called successful, as Popeyes tweeted on August 27th, 2019, that they’re out of chicken sandwiches.
