Our battle will be legendary, also referred to as Finally, a worthy opponent. Our battle will be legendary! is a popular quote, said by Tai Lung, the antagonist of Kung Fu Panda.
Initially, it was mostly popular among Spanish speakers online, however, it gained wider popularity on Reddit in 2019.
Origin
Kung Fu Panda premiered in the United States on June 6th, 2008.
One of the scenes present viewers with Tai Lung, the antihero of the movie excitedly envisaging his encounter with the film’s hero.
It is here the snow leopard says the words “Our battle will be legendary”.
The first GIF of this moment was uploaded to Imgur in 2015.
Spread and Usage
The first instances of the meme, that were uploaded to the web were mainly in Spanish, uploaded to 9GAG and Memedroid from March of 2016.
The first ever English edition of the image macro was added in November 2016 to Funpic.us. The original one was uploaded to 9GAG sometime before, but it has been deleted since.
It remained relatively unused, up until 2019, when it had surfaced again on Reddit, in the /r/HistoryMemes subreddit.
Following this, the format had spread again, initially through the various threads of Reddit, then other sites and meme groups as well.
