“Omelette du fromage” comes from the episode The Big Cheese, which was aired on December 4th, 1996.
The plot of the episode revolves around Dexter studying French with an invention that teaches him while he’s asleep.
The device, however, malfunctions and repeats “omelette du fromage” all night, which is all he can say the following day.

The expression was first defined on Urban Dictionary on December 12th, 2009.
A clip from the episode was uploaded to YouTube in 2012, depicting girls flirting with Dexter because of him saying “omelette du fromage”.
The episode would be often referenced on Tumblr and in 2017, Vice published an article with the title I Spent an Entire Day Only Saying ‘Omelette Du Fromage’.
In 2018, some users created an image macro from a scene of the episode, with the phrase I love your accent, say it again, which was most popular on Twitter.
