Kung Fu Panda premiered in the United States on June 6th, 2008.
In one of the scenes masters Oogway and Shifu (voiced by Randall Duk Kim and Dustin Hoffman respectively) are seen together, as the former is ascending to the next life, saying “My time has come”.
An isolated clip of the scene was uploaded to YouTube by Homer Chiu on September 22nd, 2013, with the title Kung Fu Panda – Oogway Ascends.
Spread and Usage
“My time has come” first appeared as an image macro meme on March 8th, 2018, in a post shared by Reddit user u/JesusStalin1945 in the r/memes sub.
The true breakthrough for the meme, however, was an another image macro, uploaded to the r/dankmemes sub by u/Fridgepolice on January 21st, 2019.
In the following years, “My time has come” turned into a widely used meme format, appearing both on image macros and GIFs, on social media sites like Reddit, Twitter and Facebook as well as 9GAG.
