Thor: Ragnarok premiered in the U.S. in 2017.
The movie’s official trailer contained the scene in which Loki’s brother Thor undergoes some sort of torture. The torturer addresses Loki, asking about whether he knows the person subjected to the torture.
Loki chuckles and refuses to plead, uttering “I’ve never met this man in my life”.
Spread and Usage
Just one day before the official premiere day, on the 2nd of November, a pair of animated GIFs taken from the scene were submitted on Tumblr.
On Reddit, the ’ve never met this man in my life was re-imagined on multiple occasions, drawing parallels between the quote and different social phenomena or pop-culture references.
