Origin
One early case of “intensifies” comes from the subtitles of Breaking Bad, when in Season 5 Episode 4, Walter White and Water White Jr. (played by Bryan Cranston and RJ Mitte respectively) are revving their car engines.
The subtitles display “revving intensifies”.
The episode was aired on August 5th, 2012.
An early case of the meme emerged on the /tv board of 4chan in December, 2012.
Spread and Usage
In later years, the format would grow significantly, with distorted image macros, and vibrating GIFs, paired with the caption “intensifies” emerging on a large number of social media sites, including Reddit, Tumblr, Instagram, Twitter and Facebook as well as 4chan.
“Intensifies” would later appear in the meme format of 2019, revolving around the Google Map Points like churches in Poland or Gun Stores in the United States.
