During the episode, the Last Samurai is discussing hairstyles, when someone mentions the top knot, to which he responds with the line “I see you’re a man of culture as well”.
The scene was first turned into a reaction image meme on November 16h, 2015, when an anonymous 4chan user posted it in the /ck/ board.

“I see you’re a man of culture as well” started gaining popularity online during the spring of 2017, when on March 7th, it was posted on the Facebook page Weebs making fun of weebs Facebook page.
Within a few days, the meme was reposted on both Instagram and Reddit, spreading across numerous subs.
By April 2017, “I see you’re a man of culture as well” became a widely encountered meme format, appearing on subreddits like r/dankmemes and r/MemeEconomy as well as social media sites including Facebook, Instagram, 9GAG as well as 4chan.
