Hold Me Closer Tony Danza
Hold me closer Tony Danza is a popular misquote of the Elton John song titled Tiny Dancer.
It is one of the most common mispronunciations at karaoke nights and shower singing sessions.
The song was released on Elton John’s 1971 album Madman Across the Water and was later published as a single in 1972.
“Hold me closer Tony Danza” would not be created until at least 1978, when Tony Danza started his career as an actor and television personality.
Spread and Usage
Over the years, many people misheard the lyrics; so much so that “hold me closer Tony Danza” would become a catchphrase.
It was defined on Urban Dictionary in 2006.
In May, 2017, a music video was premiered on the Cannes Film Festival, as the winner of the Elton John: The Cut competition.
