Death To The MPLA
Meaning
Death to the MPLA is a type of “switch-and-bait” meme, originally coming from a scene of Call of Duty: Black Ops 2.
The scene features African general Jonas Savimbi, whose life goal is to destroy the People’s Movement for the Liberation of Angola (MPLA).
This scene inspired the internet to use Savimbi’s character to plant baits into various videos, especially the kinds that seemingly suggest erotic content while watching.

Origin
General Savimbi made his appearance in the very first scene of Black Ops 2 in 2012.
During the beginning of the mission, we can hear him shouting things like “Death to the MPLA”, while he charges the enemy alongside his troops.
In 2018, a “switch-and-bait” meme was created on iFunny: A still frame, with Savimbi on it saying “Stop Watching This Brother, We Must Fight the MPLA”, captioned in impact font.
The image was first cut in a “Hit or Miss” video. The edit was then uploaded onto YouTube, eventually gaining 200 thousand views.
Spread and Usage
Although the meme never saw viral success, Death to the MPLA made some impact on the iFunny community, as the platform produced different variations of the format following the year 2018.
