Kinktober is a period in a year, when a group of people decide to honor their hobby of writing kinky fanfiction and creating kinky fanart, every day with a new subject or trope in mind.
Like no nut November, “kinktober” is fun for some while a challenge for others, testing their will at creating something new every day.
Origin of the term
The practice had begun online when fandoms on Ao3, DeviantArt and Tumblr decided to consecrate an entire month to bringing their kinkiest, dirtiest ideas and fantasies alive and sharing it online with each other.
The first “kinktober” on Ao3 was documented to be in 2016, and every year new themes are created by the community to stick to.
Spread of the term
Over the years, “kinktober” became a bigger and bigger online phenomenon, appearing in hashtags on all sorts of social media sites, like Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, however the artworks mostly remained on the fandom sites, as more often than not, they are showing explicit content.
An entry was written and uploaded to Urban Dictionary in 2018, describing the event to be “an excuse to write porn”.
