What does the meme Fucking Mint mean?

Fucking Mint is a slang phrase, used to refer to something, that is appearing as broken, but is indeed in “mint condition” or perfectly intact, better than new.

Online, it is frequently applied in a sarcastic way, to hint, that something is broken or in poor condition.

In 2019, the expression got adopted by TikTokers, who paired it with the “ok” hand gesture while referring to their flawed lifestyles or possessions.

Origin of the meme

The expression had been part of the Urban Dictionary archives since 2003 and was widely used in the United Kingdom for a while already, especially paired with “fucking”.

It appears in a YouTube video as early as 2011, uploaded by DannFTW, in which a gamer reacts to something with the phrase “That was fucking mint”.

Spread of the meme

A meme of Australian politician, Kevin Rudd with the captions “Fucking Mint” had been uploaded to 4chan’s /b/ thread in 2016.

Since that event, the phrase had been seen in discussion on Reddit, as well as various meme groups on Facebook.

Finally, in 2019, TikToks started to surface, where they apply the term for things, that are obviously not in the mintest of conditions.
