To dog walk someone is to bring them under your total domination and ensure, that their actions are bound to your leash, leaving the power in your hand.
There are several different ways of “dog walking” someone; this may include manipulation, humiliation, financial domination or even blackmail.
The path doesn’t matter, rather it is the result; once you are “dog walking” someone, they are your servant.
Origin of the term
The exact origin of the phrase is unknown, though it uses an everyday metaphor of walking a dog, in which the owner is giving some illusionary freedom to the dog, but it is indeed bound to the leash, thus to the will of the owner, who retains full control over the animal.
The phrase was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2008, with a bunch of other entries on the subject being uploaded since then.
Spread of the term
The expression “dog walk” truly exploded in 2019, when a Twitter dispute emerged between political commentator Tomi Lahren and rapper Cardi B, over the longest partial government shutdown.
Lahren mocked Cardi B after she spoke out about the incident, to which the rapper reacted with a brief, but intimidating tweet: “Leave me alone I will dog walk you .”
It didn’t take a long time until the fans and followers of Cardi B endorsed the phrase.
