The phrase Dindu Nuffin is the phonetic transcript of the sentence “didn’t do nothing”. It is used pejoratively to mock and criticize black people.
The expression appeared on the internet in 2014, and had spread especially on 4chan’s /pol thread.
Origin of the term
The genesis of the phrase lies in the mass riots in the US between the years 2014 and 2015, when several unarmed black men had been shot by police and upset sympathizers pleaded for their innocence with the sentence “He didn’t do nothing”.
The bastardized form of the phrase had been present on /pol since August 2014, soon after the shooting of Michael Brown. 4chan users had labeled rioting black people, as well as people feeling sympathy for their cause “dindu nuffins”.
Spread of the term
In the following dark years of the decade, the expression had seen a big amount of endorsements, especially on the /pol and /b threads of 4chan, but it also spread onto sites, like Hiddenlol, where posts containing hate towards black people are not uncommon.
Though the phrase had been often seen in relation to riots, set in motion by police brutality and prejudice, its memory had somewhat faded and it is not as common as it was between 2014 and 2016.
