RN is a widely encountered and used internet abbreviation, standing for the phrase “right now”.
It is mostly used for either demanding someone to do something this very instant, or when somebody is telling about the they are occupied with in the moment.
Alternatively, the acronym may refer to phrases, such as “Registered Nurse” or “Royal Navy”, although these uses are not nearly as widespread as the one mentioned above.
Origin of the term
“RN” has been around since the 1990’s, when most acronyms were conceived on message boards and chatrooms.
It was first defined on Urban Dictionary in 2004, with a large amount of other entries written on the subject since then.
Spread of the term
“RN” became widespread in the 2000’s, thanks to the rise of the popularity of digital communication, through the appearance of SMS, MSN and later social media platforms such as Twitter, or Facebook.
